Summer 2024

Freeman Summer Study Tour: Japan, JUNE 10-22

Under the theme "Creating Connections Across Generations," 20 students from 12 schools across four islands embarked on a journey through Tokyo, Kyoto, Himeiji, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.  Students visited several historical sites, participated in cultural activities, did a homestay with a Japanese high school student, ate delicious food and built a strong community with one another. Thanks to the generosity of The Freeman Foundation, participants with demonstrated financial need and/or demonstrated commitment to PAAC programs received scholarships.

Media and Journalism Study Tour: Philippines, JUNE 21-29

Four students from 3 different islands attended sessions at the East-West Center International Media Conference in Manila, Philippines. They engaged with journalists, global thought leaders, climate experts, policymakers, technologists, and indigenous voices from around the globe. From reporting on climate change to the impact of AI on elections, students explored careers in international media while also going to historical sites and cultural engagement activities. Thanks to the generosity of The Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation and the State of Hawaiʻi Grant-in-Aid program, participants received merit- and/or need-based financial aid.
